Laundry Detergent

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Here is how you do it:

1 bar of Fels-Naptha (Ace Hardware)
1 bar of Ivory (at your local grocery store)
2 cups of Arm & Hammer WASHING soda (not baking soda / Ace Hardware)
2 cups Borax (Ace Hardware or local grocery store)
5 gallon bucket with a lid

Grate soap and Fels-naptha and put in a stock pot.

Add 12 cups hot tap water and heat until the soap melts.

Add the washing soda and borax and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat.

Pour 12 cups hot tap water into 5 gallon bucket and then add soap mixture.

Now add 2 gallons plus 12 cups of water and stir.

Let soap sit for 24 hours to gel.

Option: you could add 1 oz. of essential oils if you wanted your soap scented. I just love the clean smell of the soap itself though.

**Be careful when grating the soap and Fels-Naptha
